Michelin-starred restaurant invites Clemson football team to dinner after White House fast food fest

The crew at Alinea, the world-renowned Chicago restaurant, have invited the Clemson Tigers to their establishment for a night of stellar cuisine after bearing witness to the national college champions’ fast food feast with President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday evening, Alinea co-owner Nick Kokonas tweeted the invite out to the team.

Kokonas told Eater Chicago he’d take the team around to other restaurants owned by the Alinea Group — the company Kokonas has with celebrated chef Grant Achatz — including Next, Roister, and upscale cocktail lounge The Aviary

Trump made a big to-do on Monday when he welcomed the team to the White House with a spread that included hundreds of McDonald’s  hamburgers, french fries, and lots of pizza and other fast foods.

For comparison’s sake, Alinea is Chicago’s only restaurant to retain a three-star Michelin rating while Roister was awarded a one-star Michelin rating for 2019. Meanwhile, Next and The Aviary have piled up plenty of accolades of their own. TL;DR: this is the kind of restaurant tour many Chicagoans and foodie tourists have shelled out big bucks to take.

The only thing Kokonas will have to keep an eye on is if those free meals would be a violation of NCAA rules, because the NCAA is about the only organization that can give the federal government a run for its money on outdated, byzantine regulations.
