I played the Vatican’s version of ‘Pokemon GO!’ where you create an avatar and chase Jesus — and I was not all that impressed

I must admit, I was a real “Pokémon GO!” addict at one point. The game hooked me in such a way that I went to gyms, planned walks hours in advance, and even checked the application for multiple Pokéstops in places I visited every day.

The problem is that “Follow JC Go!” didn’t get me excited in the same way, for several reasons.

Firstly, it doesn’t have a clear goal. In “Pokémon GO!” the goal is to become the best trainer through battles in gyms, catching Pokémon and picking up items. In the religious version, there’s no specific goal.

Its creators say they created it for people to “learn facts about religious characters” in a fun way, but the truth is that it’s not that entertaining or well-executed.

The trivia-style statements are too easy, so it isn’t challenging to pick up items and doesn’t feel like much of an accomplishment. The scenery and animations ooze simplicity.

While there’s no hype to draw in millions of players, the tourist guide is an interesting addition for those who play and equally for those who don’t and, who knows?

Maybe it could be an effective way of imparting religious knowledge with younger members of the household.
