One of Mac Miller‘s close friends has thrown his support behind Ariana Grande, claiming that no one was more supportive of him getting sober than her.
Shane Powers dropped an episode of his podcast ‘The Shane Show’ on Monday night, which was totally dedicated to remembering Mac, and in it he says Ariana was a ‘G’ to him.
Speaking of her influence on his sobriety when they were together, he explained: “They were very much in love, and I have to say she was incredible when he was first sobering up. She was a f***ing G to him.”
He added: “There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana.”
“I saw that. I was around it, I took phone calls from her [asking] ‘how do I help? What do I do?’ This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy.”
Mac passed away on September 7, 2018 from an apparent overdose at the age of 26.
While an autopsy has been completed, the cause of death has not yet been revealed as “additional tests” are needed, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner.
Following the news of Mac’s passing, Ariana Grande disabled commenting on her Instagram, reportedly due people implying that she was somehow to blame for his death.
Shane added: “The way that Mac partied was not healthy, but I gotta tell you man, there was no one in his life more ready to go to the wall for him when it came to him being sober.”
“She was an unbelievably stabilizing force in his life, and she was deeply helpful and effective in keeping Mac sober, and helping him get sober.”
“She was all about him being healthy,” he added.
Shortly after his split from Ariana, Mac was charged with a DUI after crashing his car into a utility pole in Los Angeles.
Following the incident, Ari tweeted saying that she had “cared for him and tried to support his sobriety.”
Ari is yet to comment on Mac’s death, but she has honored him with a silent Instagram upload.
It goes without saying that there is absolutely nothing that Ariana could have done to prevent Mac’s tragic passing, and our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this difficult time.
