Shots were reportedly fired at the US embassy in Turkey

Shots were fired from a passing vehicle at the US embassy in Ankara, Turkey on Monday, CNN Turk reported.

Bullets hit a window at the embassy’s security post following the attack which occurred at 5 a.m. local time. No casualties were reported.

Police are searching for the assailants, who were said to have fled in a white car.

On Sunday, The US Embassy in Ankara tweeted that it, along with the US Consulate General in Istanbul and the US Consulate in Adana are closed from Monday until Friday in observance with the Sacrifice Holiday in Turkey.

Video of the event appears to show the window’s bullet hole and police presence around the embassy.

The incident comes as tension between Turkey and the US continues to boil over Turkey’s detention of a US pastor.

Earlier this month, the US slapped sanctions on two top Turkish officials. The US also raised tariffs on Turkish metal exports, which prompted calls by Turkish PresidentRecep Tayyip Erdogan to boycott US goods.

The Turkish lira saw a dramatic fall following the measures, plunging as much as 20% versus the dollar in an all-time low earlier this month. The lira’s decline was felt globally, leading to drops in other emerging market currencies.

Turkey’s currency bounced back 7% last week after Turkey slapped huge tariffs on American cars, alcohol, and tobacco.
